    Cavaliers travel to Catawba seeking back-to-back SAC wins | Sports

    Catawba secured its first winning season since 2017 last week with a 31-28 South Atlantic Conference win over Tusculum. On Saturday, Virginia-Wise goes to Catawba looking to take another step toward its first winning football season since 2016. The SAC game is set for a 1 p.m. kickoff at Shuford Stadium in Salisbury, North Carolina. UVA Wise (4-5, 3-4) can move above .500 with a win Saturday followed by a victory over Barton at home in its regular- season finale on Nov. 13. The Cavaliers ended a three-game losing streak last weekend with a 28-24 SAC win over Limestone. OPPORTUNITY

    Sports, Team Selection, Vaccine, Travel, More

    [Written by Don Burgess] Team selection in the age of vaccine mandates is causing sports organizations to jump through extra hoops. Some like the Bermuda Olympic Association and the Bermuda Amateur Swimming Association are going forward with a policy that only vaccinated athletes will be considered for selection. Others, such as the Bermuda Football Association, player selection will be on a tournament-by-tournament basis. Complicating factors include countries such as the US and Canada having mandatory vaccination policies for travellers. So even if a team was playing in the Caribbean, getting unvaccinated players there would be an extra logistical problem and

    After backlash, UMD adjusts COVID-19 travel policy for club sports

    The University of Maryland amended its policy that barred club sports teams from competing against teams whose schools do not have a COVID-19 vaccine mandate this month. Under the updated policy, teams traveling overnight or competing against teams that come from a school without a vaccine mandate must submit a negative COVID-19 test result, according to an Oct. 15 email from assistant club sports program director Kurt Klier. Students must be tested prior to traveling to an event with teams from schools that have not issued a vaccine requirement and tested again following the club’s return.     CAA exploring expansion, two-division setup that would reduce travel costs | College Sports

    Monmouth and Fairfield are viewed as potential CAA members for a north division, with UNC Greensboro a potential member in the south. D’Antonio chose not to discuss whether the league is investigating a two-division setup or identify expansion candidates. He said that since he became commissioner, “We’re always looking at scenarios associated with a competitive model that provides a sustainable atmosphere for the schools that are in our conference.” There is no timetable for the CAA determining how it intends to proceed, according to D’Antonio. Without JMU, the CAA for basketball and other sports apart from football would include Charleston,
