    University of Notre Dame presents the play ‘This is Modern Art’

    SOUTH BEND — The University of Notre Dame’s department of film, television and theater presents “This Is Modern Art” from Nov. 10 to 14 at the DeBartolo Performing Arts Center. Written by Idris Goodwin and Kevin Coval and based on real events, the play follows a crew of Chicago graffiti artists as they display their work at one of the city’s most venerable cultural institutions — the Art Institute of Chicago. The play asks questions such as, “When is a piece of graffiti a work of art, and when is it a crime?” and “Who gets to decide which is

    Halifax Art Festival gets new layout in Daytona | Arts & Entertainment

    The 59th annual Halifax Art Festival will be Nov. 6-7 with a new layout. The City of Daytona Beach has redesigned Beach Street, reducing it from four lanes to two lanes. The median of palm trees remains. For more space, the festival will be including City Island as well as Beach Street with Magnolia Avenue providing artists and shoppers with a centralized new layout. The festival is the second oldest continuously presented one in Florida. It features a unique blend of fine arts, crafts, music, food and fun. Admission and parking are free.     Afghan Art Flourished for 20 Years. Can It Survive the New Taliban Regime?

    The day Afghanistan’s president, Ashraf Ghani, fled and handed the country over to the Taliban, Omaid Sharifi was in downtown Kabul, helping his colleagues paint murals on the wall of the governor’s office. By noon, panicked employees in nearby government buildings were flooding the streets, some jumping into cars, others pedaling bicycles or running to get home, or to the airport. Mr. Sharifi, 36, decided to leave his work unfinished, asking his colleagues to pack the painting tools and head to the office. The Taliban were in charge of the country’s capital a few hours later.     L&C Art Faculty Exhibition back in person for 2021 | Arts & Entertainment

    Lewis and Clark Community College’s annual Art Faculty Exhibition is returning to the Hatheway Cultural Center Gallery this year. “It’s exciting for both students and faculty being back on campus and being able to host the Art Faculty Exhibition in person at Hatheway Gallery after months of virtual teaching and learning from home due to COVID-19,” said Fine Arts Program Coordinator and Gallery Director Angela Hung. “Students and community members will have a chance to meet our talented art professors during the opening reception and see their amazing artwork.”  An opening reception will be held from 4-6 p.m., Friday, Oct.
